We are now taking applications to work at Craigieburn for the 2017 season. If you are an intermediate / advanced skier or advanced snowboarder with a hard working attitude then you have arrived at the right place.
Craigieburn is one of Canterbury’s iconic Club Fields, meaning the mountain and lodging is run by a charitable, non-profit organisation, overseen by a group of volunteers based in Christchurch. We have a paid full-time manager on the mountain who deals with all operational and staff matters.
We employ a small team of 10 people who live and work on the mountain in a close team environment. Accommodation is basic – small but individual rooms. Employees all help each other out by covering other people’s days off, and also provide assistance around the lodges in the morning and evening. The reward is 6 days paid work per week (except the volunteer roles) all food and accommodation provided, satellite internet access and all the skiing you can handle. This is not a glamorous ski resort with a day spa and all the trimmings, but has been likened to a busy backcountry hut with incredible inbounds skiing and access to almost limitless sidecountry and backcountry touring opportunities.
All employees at Craigieburn must live on the mountain, and get 1 day and 1 night off per week. While continuous work is snow dependent, in the event of temporary closure or delayed start we will provide accommodation and food at no cost to you in exchange for helping out around the lodges. This is something the big commercial ski areas generally do not provide.
